thrush: A fungal infection caused by candida albians that often occurs in the mouth. Characterized by white patches inside the mouth, thrush is common in infants and people with suppressed immune systems.

tongue: Location of minor glands in the salivary system, located in the mouth.
 
VII cranial nerve: Controls facial movement and can be damaged in the event of salivary gland removal (usually occurs in cases of cancer of the salivary glands).
 
Warthin’s tumor: A relatively uncommon tumor of the salivary glands.
 
xerostomia: A form of dry mouth caused by insufficient saliva.
